Michigamme Township has started an optional recycling program.  If you wish to participate the Township is providing 3 trailers on the parking lot across from the DPW garage on Barnum Street in the village.  One trailer is for glass/plastic/metal, one for dry fiber/ paper/cardboard/books/magazines/junk mail and one for compost materials.  Trailers are open 24 hours, 7 days a week.  This program started on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012.


Glass/Plastic/Metal:  Glass, plastic, small pieces of metal, aluminum/steel/tin cans, food jars, water bottles, milk jugs, sports drink bottles, non-deposit soda and juice bottles, yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese container, butter tubs, laundry detergent bottles, fabric softener bottles, drained oil plastic quarts/gallons/jugs, dishes or silverware, hand soap bottles, ice cream buckets, TV dinner trays, pot & pans.  Items may be co-mingled.
Dry Fiber/Paper/Cardboard/Books/Magazines/Junk Mail: Dry fiber, paper, cardboard, books, magazines, junk mail, newspapers, office paper, file folders, envelopes, shredded paper, telephone books, ledger, manila envelopes, sticky notes, paper bags, paper egg cartons, paper plates, paper plates, and paper cups. 
Fiber/Compost Materials: Fruits, vegetables, bread, pasta, grains, eggshells, nutshells, coffee filters, coffee grounds, tea bags, meat, fish, poultry, food in general, pizza boxes, soiled paper towels, napkins, paper food wrappers, hay, straw, plants, non-synthetic cloth, cooking grease, cooking oil, manure, and leather.  No non-organic materials like plastic bags or plastic containers in the composting trailer. 
All recycle items must be kept clean (rinsed out), dry, and empty.
Landfill Items (For general household garbage pick-up):  Bubble Wrap, Plastic Bags, Plastic Wrap, Sorel Boots & Styro Foam Items.

Marquette County Sharps Disposal Sites:  This new program allows you to bring your used syringes and other sharps to the following locations:  Snyder Drugs, Ishpeming; Hometown Shopko, Ishpeming; Morrison Pharmacy, Ishpeming.


Electronics can be returned to Best Buy, Radio Shack, and Goodwill.  They will not be allowed in the recycling trailers. 


Every ton of disposables the Michigamme Township recycles or composts is a ton of waste Michigamme Township does not have to pay for as trash at the Marquette County Landfill.
